Panji Winanteya: Pupuk Indonesia Optimizes Industry 4.0 Transformation to Achieve Food Self-Sufficiency

Panji Winanteya Ruky, Director of Business Transformation at PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), stated that the Pupuk Indonesia Group is committed to continuously transforming its operating model by implementing Industry 4.0 technologies. This commitment is part of the company’s effort to support the government in achieving national food self-sufficiency.
Panji Winanteya explained that through Industry 4.0 technology, Pupuk Indonesia can achieve more reliable, productive, and efficient operational performance. The implementation of technology throughout the company’s supply chain—from upstream to downstream—will ultimately benefit farmers by making it easier and smoother to access fertilizers, especially subsidized fertilizers.
“In addition, the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology in Pupuk Indonesia Group’s supply chain supports the company’s competitiveness in both domestic and international markets,” Panji added.
The latest Industry 4.0 technology implemented by Pupuk Indonesia is the launch of the Production Analytics Center (PAC) in the production sector. PAC integrates operational data from 47 subsidiary plants across various regions in Indonesia and performs comprehensive operational analytics. It provides end-to-end visibility of production performance, helping production units analyze more accurately and make better operational decisions.
Panji Ruky explained that PAC enables more precise production monitoring, supports factory performance optimization, and enhances overall efficiency. This integrated digital system presents all analytical results on a single, user-friendly platform.
PAC can also detect operational anomalies or deviations from benchmarks early, forecast the remaining useful life of various plant equipment, and recommend timely maintenance. With these features, PAC helps reduce unexpected downtime.
"Through PAC, operational strategies are no longer based on assumptions or 'rules of thumb,' but on fact-based decisions. This system was developed in-house by talents from the Pupuk Indonesia Group and marks a new era for the fertilizer industry in Indonesia—smarter, faster, and more prepared to face future challenges," emphasized Panji Winanteya Ruky.
Meanwhile, for its commitment to Industry 4.0 implementation, Pupuk Indonesia received recognition from the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia through the National Lighthouse 4.0 Award in 2024. This award was granted to only 15 companies in Indonesia deemed capable of becoming role models in implementing Industry 4.0 technologies.
Some Industry 4.0 programs implemented by Pupuk Indonesia that earned this recognition include the Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP) Tools, a simulation system for optimizing profit through the S&OP process. This tool helps determine optimal profit scenarios for the Pupuk Indonesia Group.
Additionally, the Integrated Distribution & Logistics Optimization (INDIGO), a comprehensive digital ecosystem that includes distribution planning, truck-vessel loading & unloading, port management, fleet management, warehouse management, and performance management.
Lastly, the Retail Management System (Rekan/Ipubers) of Pupuk Indonesia, an open-platform retail management system designed to integrate with external systems, acts as a single-platform sales channel at retail kiosks.
"With the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies, Pupuk Indonesia is increasingly capable of supporting the national food self-sufficiency program, which is one of the visions of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, as part of the Asta Cita," concluded Panji Winanteya Ruky.
